QB Passer Rating...

  • Description: Just in time for the Super Bowl! The goal of this workshop is to have students understand the math behind the NFL's Passer Rating formula that is commonly used to compare the performances of quarterbacks. Students will analyze the various parts of the formula, learn why 158.3 is the highest rating possible, and discuss the weaknesses of this rating system.
  • Prerequisite Skills: Students should have some familiarity with translating word expressions to math expressions, as well as some basic knowledge of football.

Compound Interest...

  • Description: Compound interest is very interesting and it plays a vital role in the world of finance. March Madness Probability...

  • Description: Just in time before the 2015 NCAA March Madness tournament wraps up! The goal of this workshop is to show students how probability is related to the tournament, and to determine the likelihood of any particular team winning the tournament at any point in the tournament. The concept of compound probability will be introduced along the way.
